The wine

WALTER is the only red we make. It bears the name of Walter, who tends the vineyard today, and we make it the way his father Pino did, in the same vineyards.

The twelve grapes

Twelve different varieties grow in the family vineyards, all picked by hand. Walter blends them in a proportion only he knows. It is the family recipe, and it stays in the family.

The gift

WALTER comes in its own wooden case, with its number and a card signed by Walter. His letter is on this page. Whoever receives it has a story to tell at the table.

The method

After maceration we keep only the wine that runs from the vat by itself: the free-run wine. The press never touches the skins, and every year we give up part of the harvest. That is why there are so few bottles.

How WALTER is made

Deep ruby. On the nose, morello cherry, wild berries and plum, with sweet spice and a balsamic finish. Full and soft on the palate, with fine tannins and a long finish.

A letter from Walter

Dear guest,

My name is Walter Lento. The wine in your hands bears my name, but it is the work of my whole family.

My great-grandfather planted the first vines. My father Giuseppe, known in the village as Don Pino, started in the vineyard at twelve, and the brand bears his name. From him I learned to keep only the wine that runs off by itself, the free-run wine, and never to use the press.

This is the 2022 vintage: we made 3,333 bottles. I blend the twelve grapes myself, in a proportion only I know. The number on the label belongs to this bottle alone. The card that comes with it carries the same number, written by me, and my signature.

For us the harvest has always been a celebration. I hope this wine brings a little of that celebration to your table.

Open the bottle half an hour before pouring, and serve it at 16-18 °C.

Questions we are often asked

How many bottles are there?: From the 2022 vintage, 3,333. Every vintage has its own run, set before bottling and never exceeded. The next one, the 2023, goes into bottle in January 2027.
What does the number on the label mean?: It is the number of your bottle, one for each bottle. The same number is on the card in the case, written by Walter, who signs it.
The label says "contains sulphites". Why?: Because the law requires it, and you will find that line on almost every bottle of wine. On WALTER it means something precise: the sulphites are made by the wine itself, as it ferments with the grapes' own yeasts. We add none.
How should I store it?: Lying down, in the dark, away from heat, between 12 and 16 °C.
Where can I buy it?: Not in wine shops and not online. Write to us, and someone from the family will reply.
Can I visit the vineyard?: Yes, by appointment. Write to us.
